What Skills Will Your Crew Build?

The island is full of false signs and trails laid by liars. To reach the treasure, kids must question what they see: a skill they'll use long after the Fangs.

Navigation

North, east, south or west: every puzzle is one move on the Captain's map. Kids learn to read a map and follow directions for real.

Critical Thinking

Torn orders, cold campfires, shadows and tides. Kids learn to weigh every clue and catch the lie hidden in plain sight.

Maths & Measuring

Distances, counts and ciphers stand between the crew and the gold, so numbers finally have a purpose.

Persistence

One wrong move and you dig in the wrong sand. The Check Your Map page sends kids back to find the mistake and fix it themselves.

The story

Fifteen puzzles. Fifteen moves. One buried treasure.

The Marigold went onto the rocks in the dark, and by morning she was only ribs and rope on a strange beach. The sailors had a name for this place: the Fangs, after two great teeth of rock you can see from anywhere on the island. Pinned to the broken mast is the Captain's note. He walked to the treasure in fifteen moves and wrote every one of them down, but not in words. The island is full of false signs and trails laid by liars. Get one move wrong and you will dig all evening in the wrong sand.

How it works

  1. 1

    Start at the wreck

Find START on the Map of the Captain, in the bottom-left corner. That is where your crew stands.

  2. 2

    Solve for a heading

Every puzzle hides a single move: north, east, south or west.

  3. 3

    Draw the move

Draw one square in that direction on the map. One puzzle, one square, never diagonal.

  4. 4

    Check your map

After fifteen moves, the Check Your Map page tells you whether you are in the right place, or sends you back to the wreck. Get it right and one last door is waiting: the Captain's Lock.

Questions from Parents

How do I get the game?

Right after checkout you receive an email with your download link. Download the PDF, print it at home or at a copy shop, and play the same day. Nothing is shipped.

Can I print it more than once?

Yes. Print it as many times as you like for your own family, for siblings or for a second playthrough. Please don't share or resell the file.

Do I need a colour printer?

Colour gives the best experience because the illustrations are part of the puzzles. Print single-sided on standard A4 paper.

Which paper size?

The PDF is A4. It also prints on US Letter: choose "Fit to page", unless the printing tips above ask for Actual size. At actual size, Letter paper is slightly shorter than A4, so the very top and bottom edges may be trimmed.

What language is it in?

All games are written in English, with short texts designed for ages 8–12. Younger players can team up with a grown-up who reads along.

What if my child gets stuck?

Every game includes the answers for grown-ups, kept at the back so nobody peeks by accident. Ninja Academy, The Lost Pyramid, Starhollow Academy and Wanderwood also include a page of gentle hints.
